Immunization is considered one of ten great public health achievements of the 20th
Century. Indeed, vaccine preventable disease levels are currently at or near all-time
lows and childhood immunization coverage levels have been at all-time high levels
during the last several years.
One of the national health objectives for immunization of our nation's children is
to obtain and maintain 95% or greater coverage. Despite the availability of the
effective protection against many diseases that immunization provide, we still don't
protect our children well enough. Government statistics indicate that ONE in FIVE two
year olds has not completed a basic series of immunizations.
Still fewer have received effective new vaccines against chickenpox and pneumonia.
Immunizations aren't just kid's stuff anymore! To help keep your children current on
childhood vaccines, Bluegrass Family Health will be mailing a reminder postcard to
parents/guardians of children 8-9 months old and 17-18 months old who appear to be
behind schedule on at least one vaccination. If you receive this mailing, please
contact your child's primary care physician to discuss your child's immunizations.
It is the mission of Bluegrass Family Health to promote the health of members
through engagement and empowerment, supported by tools and information, while
delivering access to high quality, cost effective health care services.
